scroll based on the Illustrated Legends of the Kitano Tenjin Shrine (Kitano Tenjin engi emaki). Emaki are long rolled scrolls. To emulate this, I’ve created two scrolls that should be displayed horizontally to one another, with text on the rightJapanese calligraphy differs from European calligraphy in its philosophy. While European calligraphy emphasizes uniformity, Japanese calligraphy is meant to be expressive.
